ISTANBUL, the Most Crowded and Economically Most Important City of Turkey.
Being one of the oldest cities in the world, Istanbul was the capital city of the Roman Empire between 330 and 395 A.C., the East Roman Empire between 395 and 1204, the Latin Empire between 1204 and 1261, and finally, the Ottoman Empire between 1453 and 1922.
In addition, Istanbul was the center of Islam from 1517, when the caliphate passed to the Ottoman Empire, until 1924 when it was abolished.
Istanbul is the most crowded and economically important city in Turkey. The city with the 34th largest economy in the world is the city with the highest population in Europe according to the ranking made taking into account municipal borders.
Istanbul is located in the northwest of Turkey, along the Marmara coast and the Bosporus, bordering the Golden Horn. Being an intercontinental city, the European part of the city is called the European Side of the Rumelian Side, and the Asian part is called the Anatolian Side.
The city has been expanded 4 times by moving the walls further west each time and building them again in the process of development and growth and now has 39 districts. Within its borders, there are a total of 40 municipalities together with the metropolitan municipality.Back in the day, the Walls of Istanbul formed the western border of the city, which was established on a peninsula surrounded by the Sea of Marmara, the Bosporus, and the Golden Horn on three sides.
